Greece by car (with BUSHMAN): the journey is the destination.

Our journey across the Balkans to the heart of Greece brought us not only lots of adventure and encounters with ancient history, but also wonderful moments of relaxation by the sea. Travelling is easier when you have comfortable and reliable equipment at hand – in our case, of course, from BUSHMAN ;-).
We took our children on vacation to mainland Greece with the aim of visiting Athens and the surrounding area. The trip was divided into two stages, with an overnight stay in Heviz, Hungary, followed by a continuation through Serbia and North Macedonia to Thessaloniki and then on to Leptokarya, where we spent a week. We combined swimming in the sea with trips around the area. And, of course, practical items from BUSHMAN were also part of our trip.

Pella: Cradle of Famous Kings

Once the capital of ancient Macedonia, Pella is known as the birthplace of Alexander the Great, one of history's most famous conquerors. Founded by King Archelaus I, it quickly became a cultural and commercial centre. Archaeological excavations have uncovered stunning mosaics and the remains of monumental buildings that bear witness to its former glory and importance. Pella played a key role in the expansion of the Macedonian Empire.

When visiting Pella, which is located in open countryside, it is a good idea to take a hat and plenty of water. I also appreciated my Yopal linen shirt, which is extremely airy and comfortable, so even on hot days you don't lose any comfort. And even though I sweated during the tour, it wasn't visible on the shirt at all.

Olympus: Mountain of the Gods

We set off on a trail from Prionia to the Monastery of St. Dionysius, which is a great way to explore the mountain with children. The trail includes a walk around the waterfalls and takes about three hours. Don't forget to bring your swimsuits and towels in case you want to swim in the pools.

Bissau linen shorts are perfect for hikes like this – absolutely perfect and airy, with a subtle design that goes with any colour T-shirt. You can wear them in the mountains, but also on the beach or in the city. I wore them with a Bafale T-shirt, which is comfortable and beautifully airy, making it my ideal travel companion.

Olympus is fascinating from both a geographical and mythological point of view. This majestic mountain, considered the home of the twelve Olympian gods, is a powerful symbol of Greek culture and religion. The highest peak of Olympus, Mytikas, reaches an altitude of 2,917 m. However, the climb to this peak is not suitable for younger children (in our case, 8 and 5 years old), as it involves climbing approximately 2,000 meters in altitude.

Delphi: Spiritual Center

Delphi is one of the most important religious and cultural sites. Its famous oracles, where priestesses known as Pythias communicated with Apollo, attracted pilgrims seeking advice and prophecies. The site is set in a beautiful mountainous environment that underscores its spiritual significance. Delphi symbolized the centre of the world, which was expressed by a stone known as the omphalos. The Pythian Games were held here every year.

The archaeological site of Delphi is located in a dramatic mountainous landscape on the southwestern slope of Mount Parnassus. The terrain here is very rugged and hilly, which adds to the impressiveness of the place and at the same time makes it difficult to move around. The site is built on several terraces that were artificially created to level the slope of the mountain and gain space for buildings and shrines. These terraces are connected by stairways and paths.

Thanks to its location on the mountainside, Delphi offers magnificent views of the Pleistos River valley and the olive groves that stretch all the way to the sea. In the past, this impressive panorama was probably part of the spiritual experience for visitors to the sanctuary.

The archaeological site is also crisscrossed by a network of narrow paths and trails that connect the individual buildings and temples. Moving around them requires caution, especially in hot weather. This made it all the more pleasant to change into Grap flip-flops upon returning – light and comfortable, ideal for the beach and relaxation. Your feet won't slip in them at all, making them a great choice for everyday wear. And don't forget to visit the fascinating museum!

And back home again...

We continued our journey through Athens, the Corinth Canal to Mycenae and Lefkada. We took a ferry from the town of Igoumenitsa to Brindisi in Italy and from there we returned home along the Tyrrhenian Sea. After several days on the road, full of experiences, sea and mountains, we finally arrived back home. Tired but enriched by many new experiences and memories, we confirmed that travelling by car has its charm – it gives you the freedom to explore and enjoy every stop along the way. And that's why, for us, not only the vacation but also the journey itself is the destination.

Wishing you lots of travel experiences in the autumn season
